about forgotten forests...
forgotten forests took root in a café in Bristol, following an encounter between Felipe, a Colombian film-maker, and Ian from the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. Felipe told Ian about a forest community on the Colombian Pacific coast under threat from a road building project and the idea of championing forgotten forests was born...
Here at the Botanics we spend a lot of time studying plants in their native habitats, many of which are forests, and we are passionate advocates for these places. We realised that you might also have stories about your own special forests to share, and wanted to bring them all together in one place.
The International Year of Forests 2011 seemed the perfect moment to collect your pictures, videos and thoughts — and to stimulate debate about the threats to our forests world-wide.
This website has links to lots of other sites where you can upload content, so do join the conversation and spread the word to others so they can get involved too!
To celebrate forgotten forests in person at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, we’ve got an exciting programme of events, films and an exhibition for you to enjoy. Come and join us in the John Hope Gateway, Edinburgh, from 19th September onwards. See our events page for more details.
